Dear Nativity Families – 

We were recently informed by Sycamore Child Nutrition, who has provided food service for the last 6 years, that they would not be returning for the 2021-2022 school year. The decision to not return next year was due to some renovations and expansions within Sycamore that will stretch them too thin to accommodate Nativity. 

As soon as we were informed, Mr. Arbogast, Fr. Tom, John Puljanowski, and I started researching other options in our area and what we would need to do to provide lunch service next school year. We also looked at what our requirements were; the primary one being that we continue to offer Free and Reduced Lunches for those who qualify and need them.

In order for Nativity to keep the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and provide free and reduced lunch options, Nativity will need to become a School Food Authority (SFA) with the Ohio Department of Education. In the past Sycamore has provided this service for us but most other vendors do not. 

Part of the requirements of the NSLP is that once we are an approved SFA, we will then need to send out a Request for Proposal (RFP) to solicit plans from food service vendors. While it is a complicated process, the Food Service Wellness Group is assisting us with the process and we are confident that we will be able to provide a food service program in the fall. Lunch Account Balances

If you have money left on your Student’s Lunch account things will be handled in one of the following ways:

  1. If you have $5.00 or more on your student’s lunch account as of the end of the school day on May 27th, Sycamore will automatically mail you a reimbursement check to the address you have on file with the school. 
  2. If you have less than $5.00 on your student’s lunch account as of the end of the school day on May 27th there is nothing we can do to reimburse you the money. This is unfortunately Sycamores district policy. 
    1. We recommend that you have your student spend this money on a la carte items before the end of the day on the last day of school. All families that have less than $5.00 on their account will receive an email from someone in the Sycamore Child Nutrition Department with your balance and a reminder that this cannot be refunded and to spend it. We apologize for any convenience this might cause. 

These same procedures apply to any staff that has a balance.
