Below are resources for School and Parish staff currently working from home. If you have any questions or issues please submit a help ticket.

Access to a Computer
To work from home, an employee must have either a Nativity-issued laptop or a home computer. A Nativity laptop is preferred as they are set up with the information and applications you will need while at home. Nativity does not have any laptops available to loan to staff during this time.

Access to the Internet
An employee working remotely is responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate telephone communications and internet connectivity. To work from home, an employee must have a home network. If you do not have one, check with your local internet provider, many are offering 60-day free internet right now for student’s households due to COVID-19. Here are two announcements:

You can create your own hot spot using your cell phone plan. In your phone settings, you may be able to activate a personal hotspot if it is included in your plan. Note that you may want to switch to an unlimited data plan if you do this. Instructions for activating a personal hotspot:

Receiving phone calls
You can use any personal phone by forwarding your Cisco work phone to it. If you only want to ring both your desk phone and personal phone during business hours, please submit a help ticket to request this and include what phone number you would like your work phone to ring to.

Accessing the VPN
The Virtual Private Network (VPN) helps you connect to work resources without the need of being on campus. Most products are accessible from a web browser. Microsoft Office 365 products, OneDrive, Google Docs, RenWeb, PDS are available using a secure encrypted connection without needing to use the VPN.

However, if you need to access network drives, you will need to use our VPN. Instructions on how to access the VPN can be found here. If you do not have a VPN username and password please submit a help ticket.

Using Network Drives
Network Drives accessed using the VPN work the exact same as when you are on campus. If you notice you are “kicked off” or cannot access a campus drive, check to ensure you are connected to the VPN. Note: Your home network speeds may impact file transfers to and from Nativity’s network drives.

Staying connected
Messaging services are a great way to know when each other is online and text each other to get an immediate response. We recommend using Google Hangouts Chat as an effective way to quickly communicate

Video Conferencing
All Nativity Staff, Students, and Organizations must use Google Hangouts Meet for their meetings. Hangouts Meet is more secure than services like Zoom, and is already set up within the Nativity domain which provides additional security. For more information please check out these links.

Keeping Private and Sensitive Data Secure
Please remember that you are responsible for the privacy and security of sensitive data when working remotely. It applies to all administrative data, electronic or print and other files on personally owned devices

Tips for Working from Home
The Verge also put together a nice list of “work from home” tips. Some key points are:

  • Setup a separate workspace – a place that can help you prepare mentally and physically to do work.
  • Establish a routine, including non-work hours – With kids at home too, you might need to get up earlier, or work after bedtime.
  • Dress the part – Some days you may not feeling 100%, but in keeping with routine remember to help set the scene of “work” vs “leisure”.
  • Know your body – Take time to stretch and getaway similar to how you would at the office or on campus.
  • Avoid “at home” distractions — Setup your workspace and let others know what your expectations are for getting work done if you’re sharing the home.
  • Get the Tools you need – See the list above for Nativity’s available resources that will make working at home a breeze.

The church building will be open each day for private prayer. Please practice proper social distancing of 6 feet per person in all directions.

  • Monday-Friday 7:30 am-2:30 pm
  • Sunday 9:00 am to Noon
