O Come, O Come, Emmanuel #39

1. O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!

2. O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
Who ord'rest all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And teach us in her ways to go.

3. O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to thy tribes on Sinai's height
In ancient times didst give the law,
In cloud and majesty and awe.

Text: LM with refrain; ™ Antiphons, Latin, 9th cent.; verses 1, 3-6 para. in Psalteriolum Cantionum Catholicarum, Cologne, 1710; tr. by John M. Neale, 1818-1866; verses 2, 7 tr. fr. The Hymnal 1940, alt. Music: Chant, Mode I; Processionale, French, 15th cent.; adapt. by Thomas Helmore, 1811-1890.

R. (cf. Is 35:4)  Lord, come and save us.
The LORD God keeps faith forever,
secures justice for the oppressed,
gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets captives free.
R. Lord, come and save us.
The LORD gives sight to the blind;
the LORD raises up those who were bowed down.
The LORD loves the just;
the LORD protects strangers.
R. Lord, come and save us.
The fatherless and the widow he sustains,
but the way of the wicked he thwarts.
The LORD shall reign forever;
your God, O Zion, through all generations.
R. Lord, come and save us.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Come, Lord Jesus #40
M.D. Ridge

1. When the darkness closes in,
Come, Lord Jesus!
Courage fails and hopes grow dim.
Lord Jesus, come!
Clear the shadows from our sight;
set our troubled world aright.
Fill our eyes with radiant light.
Lord Jesus, come!

2. Wise and foolish, still we wait.
Come Lord Jesus!
Is our Bridegroom at the gate?
Lord Jesus, come!
At his voice, our hearts have stirred,
list'ning for his healing word,
Confident our cries are heard.
Lord Jesus, come!

3. Come to us, O living Lord,
Come, Lord Jesus!
Come with justice like a sword.
Lord Jesus, come!
Come in word with wine and bread;
come again that we poor be fed.
Raise your servants from the dead.
Lord Jesus, come!

Christ, Circle Round Us #57
Dan Schutte

1. Come, O Radiant Dawn,
splendor of the morning light.
Come, Sun of Justice,
turn away the pow'r of night.

Christ, circle round us.
 Christ, may your light surround us.
Shine in our living.
Fill our hearts with great thanksgiving.

2. Come, O Flow'r of Love,
holy branch of Jesse's tree.
Come, Bough of Blessing,
bloom for all the world to see.

3. Come, O Word of Truth,
font of knowledge from on high.
Come, Holy Wisdom,
be our faithful friend and guide.

4. Come, O Gate of Hope,
holy door of heaven's throne.
Come, Key of David,
open wide the pathway home.

5. Come, O Mighty Lord,
master of the stars of night.
Come, Strength of Pilgrims,
keep us in your loving sight.

6. Come, Emmanuel,
cherished hope of Israel.
Come, live among us,
ever in our hearts to dwell.

7. Come, Lord Jesus Christ,
long awaited Prince of Peace.
Come, Hope of Nations,
ever make our love increase.

Every Valley #70
Bob Dufford SJ

Ev'ry valley shall be exalted
and ev'ry hill made low.
And all God's people shall see together
the glory of the Lord.

1. A voice cries out in the wilderness,
"Prepare the way of the Lord.
Make straight in the desert a highway,
a highway for our God."

2. Comfort all my people.
The time for war is gone.
The blind shall see, the deaf shall hear,
the lame shall leap for joy.

3. Stand upon the mountain top.
O lift your voice to the world.
Sing joyfully, Jerusalem:
"Behold, behold your God."
